What are Invisalign Braces?

Invisalign is the invisible way of straightening your teeth without the need for conventional metal braces.  Your Scripps Ranch Dentist, Dr Goshtasbi, is a certified Invisalign provider.

Invisalign uses a series of clear retainers (aligners) that are set two weeks in advance.    By wearing the retainers it will push your teeth into that forward position.  An average person will need to wear the sequence of trays for the duration of one year.  This treatment can give you the smile you’ve always wanted without the braces you’ve always avoided.

The aligners are made through a combination of your dentist’s expertise and 3-D computer imaging technology.

Invisalign aligners are similar to teeth whitening trays, except a lot more high tech.  And yes, you can use your Invisalign Braces to whiten your teeth!  How convenient is that?

Invisalign has been proven effective in clinical research and in orthodontic practices nationwide.

Is Invisalign for Me?

A vast majority of adults and adolescents can be treated with Invisalign.  Invisalign treats a wide variety of cases, including crowding, space closure, narrow arches, relapse, anterior intrusion, and limited treatment cases.

Dr. Goshtasbi will give you an initial examination to determine if Invisalign treatment is right for you.  If it appears that Invisalign is an option, we will take photographs, x-rays, and an impression of your teeth.

Dr. Goshtasbi will then complete further diagnostic analysis to verify that Invisalign will work for you and create a treatment plan that will determine exactly how the teeth are straightened.

What are the Differences Between Invisalign and Regular Braces?

There are a few major differences between Invisalign and Braces:

1. Invisalign braces are clear and while traditional braces are made of metal.

2.   Invisalign are removable and can be cleaned while traditional braces are bonded to your teeth.  These can are very difficult to clean.   Therefore, patients often time will end up with decay and stains on teeth.

3.   Invisalign Braces are trays or aligners while traditional braces are wires and brackets.

4.   Invisalign Braces can treat common cases such as crowding, space closure, narrow arches, relapse and a few others while traditional braces can handle any case Invisalign can, plus all the cases Invisalign can’t.  So depending on your treatment, traditional braces may be your only options and the best option.  See below for some cases that can be completed by Invisalign.

As far as treatment time, depending on your case and situation, Invisalign Braces and Traditional Orthodontic Braces will require the same amount of treatment wear.  In some cases, Invisalign Braces can be worn in a shorter period of time therefore making it a quicker treatment.
